Rob arranged this ride with Jay from ‘Tunnel Hill Trolls’ and although over an hours drive from Brighton the trip was well worth it, the ride was a absolute cracker.  The trails were awesome and bone dry, the sun was shining and the company great fun.

An early start for us as we packed the car at 8-30 and headed cross country towards Guildford for a 10 am meeting. Jay and a couple of his buddies were waiting and we were soon joined by more of the gang, 10 of us from Brighton made the trip together with a few guys from Bracknell who were joining in.

Out of the carpark and straight into a dry singletrack climb. I cannot describe where we went or the twists and turns other than to say the climbs were steep but very short and were always followed by what seemed to be hundreds of yards of singletrack descents. Although it felt that we were covering a lot of distance the ride area was compact and the local guys had worked hard to squeeze in so much quality stuff. We thought that the area was similar to Swinley forest in Bracknell with a dash of the Surrey Hills but much less well used than both of these areas, it was deserted. As we travelled back the conversation was full of envious comments wishing we had such a playground on our doorstep.

2.5 hours riding time flew past and still buzzing we descended on the cafe. All day breakfast was a popular choice as we sat in the sunshine and laughed about bike riding and the different places we had been to.

A great ride and many thanks to Rob for arranging things and Jay and his buddies who took time to show us around their playground and make us feel welcome. We have agreed to reciprocate with a guided tour around one of our favorite local areas.

This day was what mtb’ing is all about, good trails, good fun and good company.
