Mavic Razor mtb Shoes
A couple of months ago I ripped the front out of my ‘comfy’ (well worn and very tatty) mtb shoes on a tree stump. I replaced them with Mavic RazorĀ Shoes and so far I have nothing but very high praise for them.
I have found that getting comfortable mtb shoes is not as straightforward as it may seem as my feet don’t really suit many of the major brands, undeterred I went through trying everything in the shops with exactly the same disappointing results.
Then came the Mavics. I tried Razor and Switchback models and both of them fitted me perfectly not only that but they were so stunningly comfortable that I was tempted to buy both. I saw sense and got the Razor’s.
These are easily the most comfortable mtb shoes I have tried, they feel like a pair of well worn slippers – just lovely. The padding and insulation is very good and the shoes have kept my feet warm on a number of rides that turned into mud plugging adventures. The shoes are fastened with two velcro straps and a ratchet that unlike previous versions I’ve tried is sensibly designed and easy to fasten and more importantly easy to unfasten. So far the fastening has been mud proof.
The cleat position is in the perfect place for me so that in use there is no discomfort. The soles have a very chunky open tread in soft / grippy rubber that so far have not slipped on anything except wet chalk. The shoes are supplied with toe studs and also a couple of metal plates that fit under the cleat to both protect the sole and also raise the cleat from the chunky tread. I have found that the thicker plate puts the cleat in exactly the right position for quick entry and exit into my Time pedals. The only concern I have is that the protective toe guard is located under the outer leather/fabric, while this gives the shoe an uncluttered look but I suspect that the toe fabric will scuff up with the type of riding that I like to do.
All in all stunningly comfortable (for my feet) and practical.
