Yes folks, Summer is nearly over (officially ending on the last Sunday of October).
In celebration of the changing of the seasons and in recognition of the natural (and naturally-inspired) trails we’ve all come to enjoy on a regular basis – we thought we’d combine a normal night ride with a woodland barbeque.
Ok – 2009 has not been a scorcher but the trails have (in September at least) been dry. They are pretty much on our doorstep too – how lucky are we?
Sticking with the natural-theme, we are going to do the usual ride (but shorter – say an hour maybe) and within the woods, we’ll set up a Ray-Mears style fire to cook with. The idea being we don’t leave any environmental damage so there will be no disposable barbeques, no firelighters and please bring something you’ve made yourself or at least something that doesn’t come packaged from a supermarket.
Woodsman Pete – true to form will handle the fire so just bring enough food / beer for yourself and we should have an enjoyable evening in the woods – probably expect to wrap things up around 10pm or so – making it only a bit later than usual. Obviously if it’s chucking it down – we’ll reschedule to a later night ride.
If anyone has any logs, kindling, old oven/grill racks, lumpwood charcoal or anything else they think would be useful – drop an email to the usual address or mention it when out riding and we’ll try to get it on site the night before.
I’m up for it
beer, food and biking …. what more could you want.

Jim, not sure some of the folks we have recently seen in the woods would be suitable to serve us beer and food….
On the other hand they were scantily clad!

I think we’ll be ok with logs and kindling care of the forest but, if anyone has any left over charcoal (lump wood charcoal) from the summer, however small quantity – be appreciated!? I’ve half a bag, I can bring. If not we can club together and buy a bag from Alec – next time someone’s over that way.
Oh, and a metal grille if anyone has such a thing, could be useful ?
