Riding with Brighton mtb

All rides are open to everyone but as you ride at your own risk you need to be 18 and wearing a helmet. Anyone without a helmet CANNOT ride with us.

Thursday evening rides  are at a slower pace with regular stops, Tuesday evening rides are  faster.

The forum is free and has lots of weekend rides posted in addition to regular club rides.

You will need good quality off road lights for night riding. Loan lights  courtesy of Freedom Bikes of George Street, Brighton are available if arranged in advance.

You are responsible for your own safety at all times. You will not be asked or encouraged to ride anything beyond your skill or comfort level. You will not be left behind on your own even if you have a mechanical problem. Your bike should be properly maintained before coming on a ride.

We do not race or ride aggressively.

Beginners Rides

If you are a beginner or just unsure we suggest that you go along to one of the monthly rides organised by Quest Adventure in Worthing. These rides are suitable for less experienced riders and the ride leaders will give advice on riding with mtb groups in the Brighton/Worthing area.

Mountain Bike Skills Development

Anyone interested in mtb skills development click the link to South Downs MTB Skills who are fully qualified mtb instructors who regularly ride with us and they will help you to improve your riding skills.

FAQs

Will I be too slow? – maybe but we will happily wait. Will I be too fast? – maybe, you will have to wait for us. How fit do I have to be? – reasonably but don’t worry about it just come along. Will there be obstacles? -yes, go around them or over them. Will I end up riding on my own?-no, we ride as a group with a leader and a sweeper.

What to expect.

  • We are not a formal club and there are no fees or costs.
  • We ride mainly in the Brighton area but we also ride all over Sussex & Surrey and occasionally further afield.
  • We ride across all types of terrain including technical singletrack, bridleway and hills.
  • A typical ride would include technical singletrack and may include obstacles, steep drops, bomb-holes, drop-offs, jumps to about 3ft high and some northshore (natural/wooden structures). It is usually possible to ride around the more difficult obstacles.
  • Flat trails and fireroads are not representative and if this your preference then our rides may not be suitable.
  • Racing or extreme challenges are not representative either and if you seek this type of ride then our rides will definately not be suitable.
  • Rides will include a stop for a drink or food and a break if any rider is struggling with tiredness or a mechanical problem.
  • Take a look at our pictures & videos (links on the RHS of this page to Vimeo & Picasa) - get in touch or just come along.
