Formula Brakes

For the last 3 years I have used Formula ORO k24 brakes with 180mm rotors. Compared to the previous brakes I had used the k24′s were in a different league for stopping power and control, they have also been very very reliable.

At the end of 2009 CRC were selling Formula ‘The One’ brakes at half price so I got a pair. Then in September 2010 I found that Formula were selling brakes directly from their website, including VAT and shipping a set of both front and rear brakes were less than a single brake at UK prices. A few e-mails later and I had a set R1′s and ‘Mega’ brakes. I have now used all of these brakes on my FS and hardtail and this is a summary of my experience. Continue reading →

Banff Mountain Film Festival

A great night out...

The Banff Mountain Film Festival is returning to the Komedia in Brighton on Friday 4th February and includes MTB action in the form of Follow Me by Anthill Films.

Last years’ event was a good night out with some amazingly shot and interesting short films. The one about the guy attempting to kayak from Australia to New Zealand will be remembered by me for a long time.

Last night ride of 2010

An ennead of riders took to the trails on the last night ride of the year with everyone hoping for a fast, dry ride. I had arrived early and already ridden some of the trails and found the climb a slog and some of the trails saturated. Hopes for dry trails were about to be dashed immediately on the first climb.

Warning: Stanmer Trail Damage

Trashed exit ramp

A couple of us found this damage to a wooden ramp on one of the technical trails in Stanmer….. The ramp that has been pulled out is the downside and riding this would have resulted in a very dangerous accident. Be careful and check everything out before riding the other obstacles and features.

 

We fixed these ramps using steel brackets and big coach bolts, it looks as if the ramp has been twisted resulting in the bolt heads getting pulled through the steel bracket. Due to the considerable force that must have been used this action must have been deliberate.

On One steel 456

On One appear to be developing a family of 456 frames with the original steel, titanium, carbon as well as the Summer Season versions. I bought an  456Ti in July 2008 and it has been my main mtb ever since. After communication with Luke via the STW  forum we met up to try each others bikes and offer our opinions on both the Steel 456 and Titanium 456. Continue reading →
