Ride Report: May 2nd Whiteways

Ghosts in the Woods

There was gentle drizzle as we left Brighton but by the time we arrived at the carpark the rain was steady and fairly heavy. Alec was waiting under a tree, Steve and Jane pulled up but their mutterings of ‘its cold and wet’ were met with ridicule and a spare jersy for Jane. In the carpark we also saw what must be the most realistic Rod Stewart impersonator in the south east, the looks, the hair if he had been in checky lycra trousers we would have asked for an autograph.  The usual bike chat and faffage followed and with a smile Jane described how 5″ is enough but most guys need 6″ or more to help compensate for bad technique! Gill’s Adventures in China

Iconic Birds Nest

I’ve finally made it to China! I had a few days in Beijing initially, staying with a friend – actually arrived on St Patrick’s day so spent my first evening drinking lots of guinness in an irish bar, a great cultural introduction! I’m now settled down in Hangzhou, near Shanghai, where it’s my 3rd day of work. Seems interesting so far and it’s a really pretty city by a big lake. I’m working with all chinese people but they speak good english, when they want that is – the rest of the time I have no idea what they’re chatting about. Got my first mandarin lesson tomorrow, hoping it’s easy?!

Ride Report 21st March: Hornshurst Woods

Hornshurst Woods Tour Party

Despite the early time 9-30 half a dozen of us met up with Dave and Mike from ‘Days of Speed’ a mtb club based in Crowborough. We had been promised a tour of the singletrack in Hornshurst woods, this sounded right up our street and with local guides we were confident of reducing trail finding faffage to the minimum. Ride Report 29th November 2009

Post ride wash

A small but determined bunch made this ride. It was wet, muddy and cold but we all finished with a smile, pleased that we had braved the elements but grateful to be back in cars with the heaters set to max and thinking of a warm shower. Continue reading

A year with an On-One 456 Ti

Satin 456Ti

I’ve been riding an On-One 456 Ti for the last 14 months, here are my thoughts.

My previous hardtails have been aluminium and although I’d heard that steel and titanium give a different ride feel I was dubious until a test ride (previously written up on this site). The test ride blew me away, I bought one and I’ve been riding it ever since. Continue reading

Ride Report: Sat 17th October 09

Rob on a roll...

Rob on a roll...

The weather was great, the company was very enjoyable,  the trails were bone dry and Rob handed out loads of free beer at the end. What more could we wish for. This ride was returning a  favour to some folks from Tunnel Hill Trolls who showed us around their playground earlier in the year.  Jay and Andy gave themselves plenty of time to drive to Brighton and arrived way early, newbie Garth arrived while Pete and Rob got stuck in traffic but at 10am about 12 of us were ready to roll.
